AAHPERD BASKETBALL SKILL TEST 

AAHPERD basketball skill test- American Alliance for health, physical education, recreation, and dance developed a norm-referenced basketball skill test in 1984. This test is applicable to both boys and girls and separate norms, age-wise, and sex-wise, have been prepared for one yearly age group ranging in age from 10 years to 15 years, 16-17 years, and college-age students. A committee of experts identified the essential skills of basketball and suggested performance tests to measure four basketball skills namely;

  • Passing and recovering the basketball accurately while moving,
  • Handling and dribbling the ball while moving,
  • Defensive movement skill

AAHPERD basketball skill test- Fifth to eighth-grade boys and college men were used as subjects for conducting the pilot studies. A large number of reliability coefficients for the four test items by the test-retest method was computed on elementary, junior high school, senior high school, and college range males and females. Quite high values of reliability coefficients were recorded and all the values ranged between 0.84 to 0.98. AAHPERD develop basketball skill testing norms on ten thousand pupils for the testing of American school children and the adult Indian population, hence, it has been considered unnecessary to describe the detailed methodology along with instruction of test items, administration, and scoring.

AAAHPERD BASKETBALL SPEED SHOT SHOOTING TESTING ITEM-

This test item is aimed to evaluate the skill of rapid shooting from specified positions and to some extent, the agility and ball-handling potential of the examinee. In this test, the basketball examinee is required to shoot, retrieve the ball, dribble and shoot again from another designated spot. Three trails of sixty seconds each are given to each examinee for making attempts to basket the ball.

AAHPERD BASKETBALL PASSING TEST ITEM-

The purpose of this test item is to measure the skill in basketball passing and recovering the ball while moving. Six squares of two feet each are marked on a wall in such a way that the lower side of squares is alternatively 3 feet and 5 feet high from the floor. In three trials of 30 seconds each standing at a distance of 8 feet from the wall, the examinee’s chest passes to the first target in front of the second target remaining behind the 8 feet restraining line and the chest passes to the second target, and so on.

AAHPERD BASKETBALL CONTROL DRIBBLE TEST ITEM

The aim of this test item is to evaluate the skill in basketball handling and controlled dribble while the body is in motion. The test is based on three timed trails first practice trail and the remaining two as the scoring trails. The examinee has to dribble the ball along a zigzag path marked with the help of six cones set up in the free-throw lane of the court.

AAHPERD BASKETBALL DEFENSIVE MOVEMENT TEST ITEM-

This test is aimed to measure the performance skill of basic defensive movement of the basketball players. The examinee is required to make a sliding movement towards his left along a marked perimeter by free throw lane, the boundary line behind the basket, and the rebound lane lines which are marked into sections. The time required to complete the full course from ABCDEFA is recorded to provide the score of this test item.
